This list of College Fly-In programs are a good resource if you're planning to squeeze in some college visits this fall before you start working on those admission applications. Here are a few programs that (some offer travel assistance) are fantastic opportunities for multi-cultural students.
Amherst College
Diversity Open House (DIVOH)
Students selected to visit Amherst for a DIVOH weekend will receive 100% of round-trip transportation costs (airline, bus, or train) for DIVOH attendance and will be hosted on campus by current students. Typically, seventy-five percent of the students who attend one of our DIVOH programs choose to apply to Amherst, although they are under no obligation to do so. A fee waiver of the $60 application fee is provided to all students invited to attend a DIVOH weekend. Some students who apply to the Open House will also receive a waiver for the Amherst College $60 application fee in order to encourage their applications to Amherst, regardless of whether they are invited to attend the Open House.

Barnard College
Barnard Bound
The Barnard Bound program allows interested students a weekend on campus at Barnard, as well as a tour of NYC. Students must fill out an application, and receive a nomination from their guidance counselor or college access mentor. Applicants who live outside of the NYC metropolitan region and demonstrate financial need may be eligible to have their transportation costs covered.
Eligibility: High school seniors who identify as students of color or students who cannot afford to visit the campus themselves

Experience Colby

Through our overnight campus visit program, Experience Colby, we do our best to make it possible for interested high school seniors to come for a visit regardless of financial circumstances. Summer Bound Program
The Dartmouth Bound STEM Program provides participants with insight into what life is like at Dartmouth, as well as information about the admissions and financial aid process. Program highlights include seminars, tours, and financial aid workshops. All students accepted into the program have their transportation costs covered.
Eligibility: Participants must have a teacher or mentor recommend them for the program.

Franklin and Marshall
Collegiate Leadership Summit
The Collegiate Leadership Summit is a two day program that provides selected delegates an opportunity to develop their leadership skills while interacting with F&M community members and experiencing college life in a highly selective liberal arts environment. Delegates will also demonstrate their leadership skills through an admission interview and group activities. The cost of travel and attendance is covered by the college.
Eligibility: Applicants must have a 3.3 GPA, come from a background underrepresented in higher education, and demonstrate leadership in their school or community

Diversity Leaders Program
The Fly-in Weekend is from Thursday evening through Saturday mor
ning, and is an outstanding mixture of academic life and the social scene at Hope College, with a combination of weekday and weekend opportunities.
Visiting students are paired with a Hope student host for the trip, and they will stay overnight with their host in one of Hope’s residential facilities both Thursday & Friday night. During the day on Friday, participants attend a Visit Day program including a tour, class visit, academic departmental sessions and may request a personal interview (optional) or other individual appointments.

Harvey Mudd College
Fall Future Achievers in Science and Technology Program
The FAST program is intended to allow underrepresented students a chance to experience Harvey Mudd College. Participants of Fall FAST will stay overnight in one of our residence halls, take campus tours (both at HMC and through our sister schools at the Claremont Consortium), sit in on classes, complete an interview with the Office of Admission, participate in a hands-on engineering workshop, and much more. There will also be discussions on admission policies, financial aid opportunities, campus resources, and the benefits of pursuing a tech degree at a liberal arts college.

Holy Cross College
Perspectives Overnight Program
Perspectives is an overnight program for high school seniors who are interested in learning about diversity and multiculturalism at Holy Cross. Students will be introduced to the multiplicity of people, faiths, viewpoints and ideas that exist at Holy Cross and have the opportunity to discuss their views during classes and panel discussions alongside current students and faculty. They will also have a chance to tour our campus, spend the night in one of our residence halls and eat in Kimball Dining Hall. Ultimately, we hope students will gain a deeper understanding of the College’s diverse community and the many opportunities it has to offer.

Multicultural Fly-In Program
If you are a high school senior of multicultural background, Kalamazoo invites you to spend a few days on our campus learning more about our dynamic campus community. Kalamazoo College is an increasingly diverse liberal arts college with a focus on challenging academics and experiential education. Our first-year class is our most diverse to date, comprised of 28% domestic students of color, 8% international students and 41% students from outside of Michigan.

During the Cultural Connections program you will spend a weekend interacting with current Kenyon students and faculty who may share similar cultural backgrounds with you, and will certainly share your interests. Lehigh University believes in creating a vibrant campus community. LEAD Program

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)
Weekend Immersion in Science and Engineering (WISE)
MIT is pleased to invite rising seniors to apply to the Weekend Immersion in Science & Engineering (WISE), which will take place twice during the fall semester: Sunday, September 21st through Tuesday, September 23rd, 2014 and again from Sunday, October 5th through Tuesday, October 7th, 2014. MIT has provided two opportunities to attend WISE to accommodate students’ schedules. You will indicate which program you would like to be considered for on the WISE application. Over the course of WISE, you will have the chance to attend classes, tour the campus, meet with professors, visit labs, stay with a current MIT student, and attend workshops to give you a glimpse of what life at MIT is really like.
If you are interested in visiting MIT, but cannot participate in either program, you can participate in the Shadow-A-Student Program. Registration for a shadow visit is done online via your MyMIT account; please note, you must register for this program at least two weeks in advance of your visit. During this overnight program high school juniors and seniors will be able to participate in activities designed to explore many aspects of pluralism. You will also take a campus tour and have the opportunity to stay overnight in a residence hall with a current Mount Holyoke student who you will shadow on Monday.

The Diversity Program at Pitzer is an all-expense-paid program designed specifically for students from underrepresented racial and cultural backgrounds. The program provides an opportunity to experience the distinct atmosphere that sets Pitzer apart from other colleges. Students will attend a class, spend two nights in a residence hall, dine on campus, and interact with current students, faculty and staff. Pomona College
Overnight Stays
Prospective students who are in their senior year of high school and transfer applicants may arrange to stay overnight in a residence hall as the guest of a current student. An overnight visit provides one of the best ways to see Pomona up close. Visitors will be provided a visitor’s ID and meal passes for the dining halls, passes for the libraries and athletic facilities, as well as cots and linens. Visitors may accompany their hosts to classes or select classes of interest from course schedules available in the Office of Admissions.

Reed Overnight Multicultural Experience (ROME)
Each year, the Reed Admission Office offers domestic high school seniors from historically underrepresented racial and ethnic backgrounds (African-American, Latino/a, Asian-American, Native American, Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander) an opportunity to apply for a fly-in program called Reed Overnight Multicultural Experience. Women of Distinction Program
The Women of Distinction program for high school seniors highlights the opportunities at Smith College for African American, Asian American, Latina and Native American students. Participants in this three-day program will explore Smith College and determine whether it might be an appropriate college choice for them. Students will live in campus houses, experience the academic and social life at Smith and attend panels and workshops on student life and the college admission process.

Swarthmore College
Discover Swarthmore
Discover Swarthmore! 2014 is Swarthmore College’s all-expenses paid* overnight weekend program for top high school students. This year, DS is scheduled for September 18th-20th . Prospective students will get a first-hand look at Swarthmore as they attend classes, stay with current students in the dorms, eat in the dining hall, and enjoy a candid view of campus life. Prospective students will also hear from faculty, staff, alumni, and current Swarthmore students through a series of panel discussions.
We invite anyone interested in Swathmore to apply to Discover Swarthmore, though preference will be given to students from traditionally underrepresented groups, and to students who are the first-generation in their family to attend college.

Preview Weekend

Discovering UVM
This program, geared toward high school seniors from underrepresented groups, welcomes students from as close as Vermont to as far away as the Dominican Republic. Spend two days in our residence halls with a UVM student host, attend a class, and learn about the college application process. Discovering UVM participants will receive free room and board for the program. Applicants may apply for a travel grant to help with the cost of traveling to UVM. Join us!
